Rajans ruggerties fielded a strong team combined with Wesleyites at the Sri Lankan Schools Rugby 7s Carnival in Toronto, Canada on Sep 22nd Saturday and won the Plate Championship. This is actually a repeat of their achievement in 2011. Now the Toronto rajan's final frontier would be DC rajans, a 5-match test series will be planned.

Event: Rajans Night with Roshan Pilapitiya
Host: Sammapriya Wanigasundara

Popular Teledrama and movie actor and well known old Rajan Roshan Pilapitiya visited Washington DC with “Balloth Ekka Bee” drama troupe. DC members, Samapriya and Upamali Wanigasundera graciously hosted Roshan at their residence within a very short notice. Thanks are due to everyone who attended, contributed and made the event a success. Hemantha Rathnayake, and Chanaka Rajaguru deserve special thanks, without their swift actions, Roshan would have left DC before we know.

Event: Kamal Dorabawila’s farewell
Host: Hetti (Dharmadasa Hettiarchchi)

On 11th February, DC Chapter held its 5th Chapter get-together. It was organized specifically to bid farewell to Kamal Dorabawila who migrated back to Sri Lanka. Kamal was an exceptionally bright student at school, and played a leading role in getting DAANA to a lively organization. He was instrumental in forming an Old Rajans Rugby 7s team which participated in Annual DC Tag Rugby Sevens tournament.
The occasion was graced by many DC Rajans, which made it a truly wonderful opportunity to wish Kamal, mingle with fellow rajans and also enjoy some good food and lively music. We wish Kamal the very best of luck in all his future endeavors, and gladly wish we will cross paths again.

Host: Kamal Dorabawila

Message from Kamal: “It was indeed wonderful to see so many Rajans and their families here and the maroon and blue t-shirts all over made Kandy and the by gone days seem a little closer. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did and hope to see all of you at the next get-together."
I want to extend a special thanks to Chanaka and his wife, Chamini, for coordinating the meeting, setting up the menu and also coming early along with Kauwa to help us set up for the event. Of course, it's all of your participation (and potluck contributions) that made the event a success.

Third get together of DAANA Washington DC chapter held at Upali Basnayake’s residence in Virginia on March 6th, established few important milestones for DAANA. The members of Washington DC chapter unanimously decided to take a step forward and form a formal OBU for Washington DC area taking advantage of the enormous freedom and autonomy offered to the chapters by DAANA constitution. Evolution of DC Chapter to a formal OBU, from a loosely bound chapter was accomplished by the election of a board of office bearers. Sole objective of this move was to further enhance and streamline the operation of the local building blocks of DAANA to achieve its global objective more efficiently. Following members were unanimously elected to this board for the year 2010. (L-R): Sisira Athauda (Treasurer), Bandula Ranasingh (President), Shanta Karunaratne (Director Entertainment), Chanaka Rajaguru (Secretary), Hemantha Bandara (Director Fund Raising), Dharmadasa Hettiarachchi (Vice President) ... ...

It was great meeting all of you again! It was coincidental too, to meet an Old Rajan at the Westend Buddhist Temple in Mississauga, ON-The Ven. Madawela Punnaji. Once again, a very big thank you for the all the members and their spouses who made it possible to offer alms esp. in memory of our past teachers and Rajans in the Armed Forces who lost their lives in battle. I sincerely hope the rest of the ON Rajans who were absent due to their busy schedules would make it the next time around. Hope to meet all of you soon. Until then, take care and all the best in what ever you do!
